1. What CyberHasp does
CyberHasp is a safety app. It looks out for scam messages, risky links and people who might want to harm you online. Your parent or guardian set it up because they care about you, and they had to prove who they are and agree to it first. That's the law in India for anyone under 18.
CyberHasp is never hidden. You can always see that it's on, and you can open the "What my parent sees" screen at any time.
2. What your grown-up sees
- The type of risk, like "possible bullying" or "stranger contact"
- Which app it happened in, and when
- How long you spent on each app, and when bedtime starts
- That you arrived at places you both agreed on, like school or tuition, if location is switched on
- How many steps you took each day, but only if they asked and you said yes
- Which social and chat apps are on your phone (like Instagram or WhatsApp), ones you added this week, each app's age rating and how many minutes a day you spent in them, if they asked for it
- That a chat looked like a scam (like a fake job or someone asking for money), which app, when, and how sure CyberHasp is, but only if your grown-up turned scam alerts on. Never the messages
- How many sites the web filter stopped today in each group, like gambling, if they turned it on. Never which sites
- Your Eye Safe result (no signs found, worth a closer look, see an eye doctor, or incomplete), two scores, the date and whether the camera was used, if they turned on Eye Safe
Your phone always warns you itself when a chat looks like a scam, whether or not your grown-up gets an alert. Scam alerts never include who you were chatting with. There's an option for your grown-up to see the contact's name too, but it's not switched on yet, it only works if you say yes on your phone, and your app always shows when it's on.
If you're a teen, your grown-up gets the serious alerts, and steps or social app time only if you say yes. Everything that goes is listed on the "What my parent sees" screen.
Steps are your choice. Your phone only counts them if your grown-up asks and you say yes, and Android asks you for Physical activity first. Your grown-up gets one number per day for the last 7 days, locked so that only their phone can read it. They never see when you walked or where you went. You can stop any time on the Daily steps screen, and your phone deletes the numbers at once. They're also deleted after 30 days, when your grown-up's permission ends, or where steps are switched off in your country.
Social apps work the same way. CyberHasp doesn't see your accounts, followers, friends, posts or messages in those apps. No app can see them without reading your screen, and we don't. Your grown-up needs two permissions you accepted, Safety alerts and Screen time, and has to ask for it. Your phone tells you when they ask. If you're 13 or older, nothing goes until you say yes on the "What my parent sees" screen, and you can say no again any time. Then your grown-up gets the minutes a day for the last 7 days, which apps from our list are on your phone, new ones, and each app's age rating, so you can talk about them together. Your phone deletes the minutes after 30 days, when you say no, when your grown-up stops asking or a permission ends, if usage access is turned off, or where it's switched off in your country.
The web filter is something your grown-up can turn on. It needs the App approval permission you accepted, and Android asks you once before it starts. It works like a VPN, but it only looks at the names of sites as your phone looks them up, right on your phone. Pages, videos and messages never pass through it, and nothing goes to us. If a site is in a group your grown-up blocked, like adult sites or gambling, it won't open, and you get a notice so you can ask them about it. Your phone keeps the names of blocked sites for 7 days so you can see them on the "What my parent sees" screen. Your grown-up only gets how many were blocked each day in each group. A notice shows the whole time it's on. If you're 13 or older, the app tells you plainly that it's on. It stops when your grown-up turns it off, a permission ends, consent is taken back, you say you're 18, or it's switched off in your country.
Eye Safe is a quick eye check, not a doctor's test. Your answers stay on your phone, and your phone doesn't keep the result. Your grown-up gets the result, two scores, the date and whether the camera was used, never pictures or answers. If you say yes to camera notes, the camera only looks during the check, and pictures are never saved or sent. The face reader comes from Google, and Google Play services may note that it was used.
In some countries, India included, CyberHasp doesn't count how your chats feel (happy, okay or upset), so your grown-up never sees that. Where it's allowed and your grown-up asks for it, they only get the numbers, never your words. If it's switched off in your grown-up's country, their phone tells yours to stop and deletes what it already got, and your phone deletes its counts too. Until their phone next connects, yours may keep counting for a little while.
3. What stays yours
- Your messages and chats
- Your photos and videos
- Your contacts' names, unless you share them
- The websites you visit. The web filter checks site names on your phone, and only counts the ones it blocks
CyberHasp checks things on your phone. Your messages, photos and contacts are never sent to us.
4. What we keep
We keep as little as we can. On our servers, in India, we keep your name, which family you're in, and short alerts like "possible stranger contact" with a time. We never keep the message itself.
- Places you've been are deleted after 7 days
- Alerts are deleted after 30 days
- Step numbers never reach us. They stay on your phone and your grown-up's for 30 days at most
- Social app minutes and age ratings never reach us either. They stay on your phone and your grown-up's for 30 days at most
- Web filter counts never reach us. Blocked site names stay on your phone for 7 days, and the counts on your grown-up's phone for 7 days
- Eye Safe results never reach us either. They stay on your grown-up's phone for 12 weeks at most, and go sooner if Eye Safe or screen time sharing is turned off
- Everything else is deleted when your family account closes
5. What we never do
- We never sell anything about you
- We never show you ads or build an ad profile of you
- We never track you for anything except the safety features your grown-up switched on
6. What you can do
- Look at "What my parent sees" in the app whenever you like
- Talk to your grown-up if something feels unfair. They can change what's shared
- Ask us what we know about you, or ask us to fix or delete it, with your grown-up's help
- Write to us yourself at tipoffly@gmail.com if you're worried about anything
When you turn 18, we check again, and from then on you decide for yourself what to share.
7. Need help?
If someone online is scaring you, asking for photos or asking you to keep secrets, tell an adult you trust straight away. You can also call Childline on 1098, any time, for free. If money was taken by a scam, call 1930.
